Benefits

When we welcome you to our Covenant Health family, we ask you to sign a pledge to put our patients first and be excellent in everything you do. So that we can support you in doing your best, we offer a host of benefit options to provide resources for your health, wellness, overall well-being, and your financial future.

Your Health & Wellness

At Covenant Health, our pledge is to always put our patients first. When our employees become our patients, we want to take care of you and your family. That’s why we offer our full-time and part-time employees full coverage – meaning zero out-of-pocket cost – for inpatient and outpatient services received at wholly-owned Covenant Health facilities. Put simply, if you elect insurance at a competitive rate through Covenant Health, whether you have a baby, need an MRI, or undergo knee surgery, and receive care at a wholly Covenant-owned facility, you’ll pay nothing out-of-pocket!*

We offer 3 different dental plans to our employees, with no waiting periods for major dental work.*

We offer vision benefits through Superior Vision so you can keep your eyes healthy and your eyesight sharp.*

We have an in-house pharmacy – Cov Rx – that delivers directly to many of our different facilities, offering convenience and allowing you to save money on your prescriptions.

Would you be financially secure if an injury or illness sidelined you tomorrow? In the event that you are unable to work for a while, Covenant Health provides the opportunity for income replacement by offering both short-term and long-term disability. Even better, pre-existing conditions are covered when you initially enroll in our short-term disability plan.

You never know what life is going to throw at you, so we make sure to offer our employees several voluntary benefits options through Manhattan Life*, including:

  • Critical Illness/Cancer
  • Accident Insurance
  • Wellness Screening
  • Lifestyle Reward Program

We know quitting tobacco can be hard. That’s why we pay for you to have resources that can help.

Your Well-Being

It’s important to maintain a healthy work/life balance, so we encourage our employees to take time off. We offer full-time employees generous Combined Time Off (CTO), accrued paid time that you can use for a holiday, vacation, illness, or whatever you need.

With our full-time, part-time, and PRN shifts, we offer a variety of different schedules to meet your needs.

Your family is important to us, too. That’s why we pay the full costs of Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for full-time and part-time employees – to provide your family with a little security if something were to happen to you.

Sometimes we all need a little guidance. Whether you are struggling with life, relationship, professional, financial, or family issues, we’ve teamed up with Humana to provide you with a confidential source of assistance. You’re interested in talking with a life coach to help define your goals? Check. You would like to go see a local therapist to talk through your struggles? Done. You can’t find childcare and need help? Covered. Covenant Health employees and those living in their households receive up to 8 free visits/consultations for each event with this program!

Isn’t it nice to know you have support in times of an emergency? WeCare is Covenant Health’s system-wide employee giving program, allowing employees to donate personal contributions and support their community in ways that are meaningful to them. Employees can designate their contributions among about 70 WeCare “funds” that range from scholarship programs for clinical education to supporting our medical outreach programs in their communities.

WeCare is probably best known, however, for providing financial assistance to patients and to our Covenant Health employee family. Contributions can be used to help patients who may need help paying for medications or personal items. Or, they may be designated for an employee assistance fund to help coworkers facing unexpected personal or family expenses. In 2019, employees raised more than $600,000 to help our own.

Here is one of our stories:

“For years I’ve been a supporter of WeCare – I would have never imagined that I would be in a situation where I would need assistance. On Saturday, March 1, our home of 18 years was destroyed by fire. We lost everything, including one of our toy poodles, Lucy. We were able to salvage a few items, but not many. We are left in the aftermath dealing with insurance claims and trying to regroup. WeCare was there for us when we needed help and for that I am thankful. I am very proud to be a small part of something that touches lives when they are at their lowest and are in need.”

– Jeff Massengill, Covenant Health employee

We are committed to ongoing education for our employees and working with you to take your career to the next level. Covenant Health offers a nurse residency program for recent graduates, and we support advanced certification and continuing education for employees throughout our organization. We have step-rate compensation plans and career ladder promotions in place for many career tracks, designed to support you in your personal and professional growth journey.

With ten hospitals and Covenant Medical Group to our name, we are able to provide more leadership opportunities to our employees. We provide focused training for those with leadership responsibilities, and recently launched a new “emerging leader” program for those identified as potential future leaders at Covenant Health. We strive to place our exceptional employees into key leadership roles.

Our mission is to serve the community by improving the quality of life through better health. To do that, we invest back in our community. Covenant Health has invested more than $1.3 billion in facilities and technology for our communities since 2000. We contributed approximately $278 million in charity care, uncompensated care and subsidized care in 2017. We sponsor the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, and we support HonorAir Knoxville, The Change Center, Habitat for Humanity, and other charitable organizations.

Our employees are a huge part of that. At Covenant Health, we are blessed to have employees in all aspects of healthcare delivery – from caring for patients at the bedside to developing information technology systems – who continually dedicate their professional careers and their individual skills and talents to serving others.

We pride ourselves on being the first and best choice for healthcare in our communities. In doing so, we enjoy recognizing our employees who go above and beyond. Some of the awards our employees can earn include:

  • President’s Excellence Award
  • Years of Service Awards
  • DAISY Award
  • Speak Up! Award
  • Employee of the Month
  • BEE Award
  • FLAME Award
  • FLAMES Award
  • HOPE Award
  • Nursing Legacy Awards
  • Clinical Excellence Awards
  • Additionally, many employees are nominated for individual awards, both internal and external, according to their specialty.

Your Financial Health

We know you have big plans for your future, but getting there requires planning and a little help. That’s why we offer a 401(k) plan through Fidelity.* To help you save a little more, we are proud to offer very competitive matching 401(k) contributions for our employees.

Did you know that you can potentially save more on medical and dependent care with Flexible Spending Accounts? With our Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, or FSA, you can set aside money from your paycheck, before taxes are taken out, to pay for any qualifying healthcare expenses that are not covered under our plans. It helps you plan for healthcare expenses and take home more of your paycheck.

If you have children, a disabled spouse, or a dependent of any age, you know how expensive dependent day care can be. That’s why we offer our employees a tax-free way to pay for the costs of a baby sitter, daycare, or other qualified programs with a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account. You can set aside up to $5,000 per year to be reimbursed for dependent care expenses.

We want you to know you’re first, too – that’s why we offer the Covenant Health Credit Union. Credit unions exist to serve their member-owners, so our goal is 100% member satisfaction achieved through the best possible service. Membership is open to all Covenant Health employees, and once you’re a member, you’re always a member. Covenant Health Credit Union is a full-service financial institution whose non-profit status allows them to offer competitive loan and savings rates.

We want to help you pay off your student loan debt faster so that you can focus on other financial goals. That’s why we launched our Student Loan Repayment Assistance Program*. We contribute a set amount every month toward the principal amount of your student loans – a potential savings of several thousand dollars over the duration of the loan repayment! Since this program launched in April, we’ve already had over 800 enrollees.

Should you decide to pursue additional job-related, clinical education, we have programs in place designed to assist you with educational expenses.

As Covenant Health continues to grow, we’re constantly looking for more great employees. We already know our employees are some of our best advocates. After all, who would know better than our current employees the type of people likely to share in our mission and thrive here? That’s why we put into place our employee referral program, where you can earn a bonus for each successful referral hired.

As a Covenant Health employee, you get exclusive discounts to some of our area’s top attractions and entertainment options, including:

  • Dollywood
  • Fort Sanders Health & Fitness Center
  • Covenant Health Cafeterias
  • With an account at Covenant Health Federal Credit Union (CHFCU), you get discounts to Zoo Knoxville!, Ripley’s Aquarium, Regal Cinema, and more…
